Batman: The Dark Knight Returns part 1 Trailer & more
Still playing catch up from all the news last week whilst I was in the US recording my latest podcast, you can find the here btw, but I couldn’t resist putting this trailer up as soon as I saw that it had been released on MTV. This is the animated movie I have been waiting my entire life for, Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns (TDKR…the orignial, not that imposter The Dark Knight Rises…also TDKR!)) changed the way I look at superhero comic books, I know a lot of people say grand sweeping statements like that about insignificant comics but for me this time it’s true. Reading TDKR made me realise that superhero comics could be mature, sophisticated, involved and show well known characters beyond the confines of the ‘rules’ that have been set for them. By releasing an animated version of this story, DC are exposing an even bigger audience to this story and for that I am truly grateful, I only hope they do it justice and that people go hunt out the TDKR graphic novel off the back of this two part movie. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns part 1 stars Peter Weller, Ariel Winter, David Selby, Wade Williams and Gary Anthony Williams and will be release 25th September 2012.
Of course this isn’t the first time TDKR has been animated, back in the day, The New Batman Adventures did an episode entitled Legends of the Dark Knight where a bunch of kids all sit around telling tales of Batman, one of which is based on Batman’s battle with the mutant leader in TDKR. It probably hasn’t aged too well, especially when compared to this new feature length version but still worth checking out and it’s got Michael Ironside voicing the mother-freaking Batman, in fact I’ve put it up here, aren’t I good to you?
