Man of Steel Teasers – A Tale of Two Fathers

In the trailers before The Dark Knight Rises there was a trailer I hadn’t seen, an odd occurrence these days of the internets where trailers are available on demand, that trailer was for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. What I saw was a calm, moody, drama and then something else. In case you haven’t seen it yet I don’t want to give anything away so please just take a look for yourself but note that there are also two different versions of this teaser, one with a narration by Kevin Costner’s Pa Kent and the other with narration by Russel Crowe’s Jor El, both have their own thing to say from a completely different point of view.

Now for the life of me I can’t remember which version it was that I saw in the cinema but I ‘feel’ that it was the Costner one, what I do remember is being blown away, not because it was an amazing teaser but more because it wasn’t the teaser I was expecting. I’ve seen a lot of negativity online regarding this teaser saying it’s boring and if there’s one thing we can all agree on we don’t want another boring Superman film…fair enough. However let me give you my take on the trailer, this film is directed by Zack Snyder, the man behind Watchmen, 300 and Sucker Punch, that pretty much guarantees that the Man of Steel movie will be action packed and fast paced, that’s how he rolls. All this teaser is trying to do is show that there’s more to this Superman movie, it’s showing us a Superman we haven’t seen before, a man coming to terms with who he is and what he must do. The real tease comes at the end, and it may only be short but it looked cool, I believe a man can fly…and boom. For me right now that’s enough, those out there decrying this movie as boring based upon this trailer need to learn about setting a mood and I can pretty much assure you they’ll be the same guys loving this film when it does hit our screens next year.
