Marvel Now! Update – Nick Fury Jr
With San Diego Comic Con fast approaching, the hype around the Marvel Now! has been increasing exponentially. The latest teaser seems to ask and answer it’s own question; Who will Shape the Future of the Marvel Universe? Well if the image in the teaser is anything to go by, it’ll be Nick Fury Jr, Nick Fury’s until recently undiscovered black son who was introduced in Battle Scars. Now, I have my own issues with them introducing this new Nick Fury, clearly just thrown in to make the main 616 Marvel tie up a little better with the movie Marvel universe but that’s for another time in another ranting blog post, I just can’t see why they’re asking the question and giving us the answer at the same time? Of course it could be that we’ll see a load more of these ‘Who?’ teasers all with different figures hiding behind the text, if that is the case then I can understand the tease, otherwise my reaction would be; meh.
In case you hadn’t already seen it somewhere else, here’s the proposed John Cassaday cover for Rick Remender’s Uncanny Avengers, not Cassaday’s best work if you ask me, the angle seems a little off and I’m not a fan of the titles the way they are. Then again who am I to criticize, we’ve all seen my poor photoshop efforts and that’s from stealing other people’s drawings, somehow I manage to make good art go bad:
Havok’s new-old headpiece makes him look like a tool too…a little Sidekickcast Episode #71 teaser for you right there

It seems to me that all Marvel are doing with this is the same thing they did with The Initiative. Its simply a title they are giving the new status quo after the events of AVX. Nothing more and nothing less.
I can see why they would want to get a little publicity out there about it but at the end of the day its not going to lead to any major sales spikes as they have already occurred. Sales on almost all their titles have held up well in the last few months. Some have even started their own momentum in terms of sales. Scarlet Spider being a noteable example. No one seemed to buy it for around five months and then we have practically sold out of all our copies
within the space of about a month based on positive reviews.
I can’t see any of their titles really generating higher sales volumes than they are already getting as they seem to be at a pretty good high watermark already. Obviously I can only give my view based on sales at my shop and I’m sure they don’t replicate themselves across the board too highly or Doctor Who Star Trek would be one of the highest selling comics currently out there and Venom would be a top five book. LOL.
In my opinion Venom is a top 5 book! I know you meant in the sales charts, I’m just stating how good it is, loving Remender’s work, although I wasn’t a big fan of the Circle of Four stuff. Also loving Scarlet Spider…maybe it’s a Welsh thing.
It seems now they’re even mixing their marketing campaigns, MARVEL NOW POINT ONE?! At least be consistent with how you’re selling yourself Marvel
Are they changing White Nick Fury into a black guy in the regular Marvel Universe? This SUCKS! I hate all black versions of Nick Fury. Why did they have to go and screw up something great? Keep Nick Fury White and keep the regular Marvel Universe from turning into the Ultimate Marvel Universe! And fire Bendis while you’re at it, that guy is HORRIBLE!
