First Look at Robocop Reboot

  • Follow Me on Pinterest

However you feel about the idea of a Robocop reboot, love it or hate it, you’d better get used to it because it’s coming and Sony have already set up an OmniCorp website to show off their wares, including their latest project; the RC-2000 (that’s Robocop to you and me). The picture to the left here is all we’re getting in terms of the new look but already you can see that the new Robocop design will be different enough compared to 1987′s design.

Of course Robocop is not the only thing OmniCorp (OCP still? Omni-Consumer Products no?) produce, I was happy to see in this new viral that we’re still getting the classic ED-209 with a redesign that updates the killing machine whilst maintaining that recognizable shape and functionality, all that remains to be seen is, can this version walk up stairs? I’m guessing it will be able to, you can’t play the same trick twice:

The best thing about this viral video is that it retains the same feel created by Verhoeven’s original movie, that of a world run by corporations preying on your paranoia and fear in overly obvious ploy to secure your cash monies. Lets hope this creative direction continues into the actual movie, the satire and social commentary seen in Robocop is probably it’s biggest strength and it would be a real shame to lose that in any reboot.

Robocop is directed by José Padilha, stars Joel KinnamanSamuel L. Jackson and Gary Oldman, it’s due to hit our screens in about a year, 9th August 2013, expect that date to slip as the studio decide they need this film in 3D or whatever new technology we have by August in 2013. Thanks to Empire for the heads up on this one.
