Who is Alpha? Spidey’s new Sidekick Of Course!
Thanks to FOX News, the mystery behind the identity of Alpha has been revealed, he is the amazing Andy! ‘Who?!’ I hear you cry…maybe not…Andy will be Spidey’s new sidekick, taken under Peter’s wing after he get’s powers in a similar fashion to ol’ webhead’s secret origin but this time in Peter’s very own lab. All this is part of Spider-man’s 50th Anniversary celebrations in Amazing Spider-Man #692, Dan Slott had this to say:
“If you put Spider-Man and Batman in the same situation, you’re going to have way more fun with Spider-Man,With Batman, he never really screws up the way Spider-Man does; he always seems to make the right decision. But with Spider-Man, he always screws up. He’s us as a superhero. Batman is a paragon of what we’d like to be, but in reality, we’re more like Spider-Man. He makes all the mistakes we make.”
This development adds an interesting dynamic to Spider-Man and this being the Sidekickcast we’re always happy to see a new Sidekick on the block but really we have to ask, how long will this last? Spider-Man has never needed a sidekick, he’s pretty much his own sidekick, quipping away to himself, regardless of who is listening. I can understand they’re trying to show some matrutiy to the character on his 50th birthday but this can’t help but feel a little like a publicity stunt that won’t last anywhere near as long as the length of the angry fanoiy rants that are probably already invading the internet.
