Geek Chic ~ taking it back from the hipsters, and owning it!!
So, we all know this situation, it’s an hour before going out to the pub, club, or if your very young; youth club. You have no idea what you’re going to wear, other than the fact that it will represent your proud love of all things people consider geek.
Well Gav has kindly given me permission (yes I run ideas by him at time) to do an entire article on the various places you can get your hands on various geek attire.
First up, because lets face it, they own the site, are the mad boys of Cape Killer, the “T-shirts with no heroes”. Selling their wares since February 2012, when they launched their designs at the Cardiff International Comic and Animation Expo (CICAE), these boys have been working hard on their designs. Currently there are five shirts that you can buy from the site, and I have been told that there are more on their way. Personally I own two of these guys shirt’s and that is mainly down the excellent design work of 10thology’s writer/artist/editor Stuart Tipples.
The Idea behind Cape Killer is a simple one, the boys provide t-shirts inspired by movies, or comics that we all love. The five afore-mentioned available t-shirts are inspired by 30 Days of Night, Vertigo comic’s Scalped, The Hellfire Club, 2000AD, and a comic book physician appearing in a certain blind lawyers book. Cape Killer can be found in a number of places: www.facebok.com/CapeKillerTees, Twitter @Cape_Killer, and of course the website www.capekiller.com do yourself a favour and buy something today, you’ll be getting something original that will make you stand out from the crowd.
The second site is a bit of a large company, We Love Fine provides just about any t-shirt you can think of at the moment. They clearly must have some distribution rights and copyright deals in place, due to the sheer volume of stuff on the site. One thing I do like about this site however, is that they frequently hold competitions to design shirts to be given away. Most recently they had Avengers own Tom Hiddleston as a guest judge for their Marvel Villains competition.
As I said the range of this available from this site is massive, with them selling t-shirts, bags, hoodies. If your after something slightly different, but still mainstream, then you would be hard pressed to find a more varied site with designs ranging from Marvel characters to Star Wars to My Little Pony, and everything in between. It is an american company, but I assume that they ship overseas, once again check it out, as not only could you get a great piece of clothing, you could end up designing stuff as part of their competitions! We Love Fine is available at www.welovefine.com and on Twitter @Welovefinetees.
Dont forget there are alway T-shirts available at your Local Comic Book Store, so if you’re in Cardiff, check out the collections available from:
