Django Unchained – Official Teaser Trailer (HD)
A slight explanation may be necessary here, Django Unchained is most definitely not in the realm of geek movies, so what is it doing on The Sidekickcast site? Well, it’s here because any Quentin Tarantino movie is an event movie that everyone will be talking about and I for one am still a huge fan of his…and it’s my site…so there!
For those not in the know Django Unchained is the story of a slave, Django (Jamie Foxx) appropriated by a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to help him catch a murderous gang of criminals, in return the bounty hunter will help Django free his wife from a plantation owner, earning his own freedom in the bargain. Oh, and the D is silent. This being a QT movie, there’s obviously more to it than what I’ve said, I know for a fact that the plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio) is running some kind of gladiatorial business, making slaves fight each other.
Tarantino describes this film as a Southern rather than a Western, by that I’m assuming he means that it’ll have all the usual tropes of a Western but just happens to be set in the deep South of America. For his last few films QT has clearly been going through the genres of films that he loves and making his own versions; Kill Bill – Kung Fu, Death Proof – B-Movie/Grindhouse, Inglorious Basterds – War, now with Django Unchained we have his Western (or Southern…whatever). I’ve felt with his previous two attempts he may have achieved what he wanted but they just weren’t good movies, more a series of good scenes with no real strong narative. I’m hoping with Django he can bring back the story, what we get in the trailer certainly seems a good start. After this one though, I really hope QT gets back to making original QT movies, rather than homages of genres he has loved.
