Summer of Valiant, What to Expect!

The summer of Valiant is coming.

  • Four titles.
  • Four months.
  • The countdown starts now.

Valiant Entertainment is BACK and this summer is re-launching of its comic properties.

It has now rolled out teasers for all four comics and i for one am MEGA EXCITED.

Image Comics just now are releasing some BRILLIANT comics from my number one WitchDoctor, as well as Luthor Strode, Hell Yeah!, the impending America’s Got Powers and not to mention the ongoing Walking Dead, Spawn and Invincible.

And now we have Valiant…………………………………………

What can Valiant offer?

The first four comics which they are taking out this year is as follows

“The all-new Valiant Universe kicks off with a landmark, oversized # 1 issue of X-O Manowar by New York Times-bestselling author Robert Venditti (The Surrogates, The Homeland Directive) and Eisner Award-winning artist Cary Nord (Conan)! Born into battle, Aric of Dacia — heir to the throne of the Visigoth people — has never known peace. After a brutal encounter with a mysterious enemy known as The Vine leaves him a prisoner on an alien world, the only hope Aric has of returning to his family and saving them from slavery is to seize a weapon of incalculable destruction and become X-O Manowar!”

HARBINGER #1 — ON SALE JUNE 6th!
Written by JOSHUA DYSART
Art by KHARI EVANS
Cover by ARTURO LOZZI
Pullbox Exclusive Variant by MICO SUAYAN
Variant Cover by DOUG BRAITHWAITE
QR Voice Variant by JELENA KEVIC-DJURDJEVIC

“READ MINDS. BEND STEEL. BREAK ALL THE RULES. Teenager Pete Stanchek is out of work, on the skids, and – unbeknownst to him – a psionic-powered “harbinger” with the potential to reshape the course of human history. Toyo Harada is a wealthy business magnate, a respected philanthropist and the most powerful harbinger of all – or so he thought. As they forge an uneasy alliance, will Harada offer Pete a chance for redemption – or attempt to induct him into a secret network of conspiracy, subversion and control? Pete is about to discover that he’s not alone in the world and, soon, the generation who has nothing will take on the man who has everything.”

Bloodshot (Sometime in July)

The other interesting thing about Bloodshot apart from the new comic is that SONY has actually recently acquired the rights to Bloodshot for a movie, the script has been written by Jeff Wadlow, a fan of the original run of “Bloodshot” who has agreed to write a definitive script in an agreement with Valiant Entertainment and Moritz’s Original Film.  SOURCE

ARCHER & ARMSTRONG #1 (Sometime in August)

B.C. meets A.D.D. in ARCHER & ARMSTRONG
Archer is the world’s greatest hand-to-hand fighter, an expert marksman and a seeker of righteousness. At age eleven, his corrupt parents attempted to murder him, and succeeded momentarily. But somehow, Archer came back to life, filled with a burning purpose—to bring his parents to justice and fight evil such as theirs wherever it flourished.
Though he later learns his parents have finally been brought to justice while he was preparing himself by learning the martial arts in a Himalayan monastery, Archer decided to continue with his vow. Armstrong is a ten-thousand-year old libertine as strong as a battalion, who abandoned naïveté and idealism millennia ago.
Now, he spends his days drinking, carousing and telling tales of his unbelievable adventures throughout history to anyone who will listen—that is, when he’s not on the run from an ancient cult whose bumbling agents have been hunting him for two thousand years. Armstrong escapes when he can and fights when he has to. The two men eventually meet and become partners—a team chosen by fate to face a truly terrible evil that threatens to destroy the world!

So how does Muldwych feel about this?

First impression is that £2.99 (which it looks like they will be going on the fact that previews have X-O Manowar for sale in May at this price) is too much for a company that is initially an upstart company. For introductions i believe the comics should be less to build a fan base and that extra £1 can be the difference between selling enough and selling a LOT. Even Marvel put their .1 issues out at £1.99 every time to entice new readers and i cant help thinking Valiant should be doing the same if even only for the first arc.

I will be getting all four titles to try and i am glad its only four that will be hitting the shelves in 2012 as they don’t want to over do it. They can add more next year 6 months into this four and even in mean time put out One Shots and mini series to build the characters.

I hope though that it is a bit of a reboot and not continued on from the 1990’s as the fans of yesteryear WILL buy these comics again but they could alienate new readers like me by referencing the old stuff.

Final thought is that people keep telling me that comics are dying and it’s a spent force and then i look online and in my store and see Image, BOOM, 2000AD, Dynamite Comics to name a few and now Valiant who back in the day were one of the heavy weights.

What do you recon 1940’s were DC, 1960’s were Marvel, 1990’s Image, could the 2010’s be Valiant?

Valiant have been missed and are being welcomed back by all including me with massive open arms and i URGE you to try at least one of the comics this summer.

Either way it’s good to be a comic book fan.

Regards

Muldwych

P.S. How amazing do these covers look
