Marvel Graphic Novel Collection

So, if you live in the UK and watch television you may have seen adverts for a collection of graphic novels being sold on a fortnightly basis, I for one love this idea and will be getting this collection in its entirety.

I thought I would create a new feature, where every fortnight I would review the book that is being sold.  As the idea is to create the “Ultimate Graphic Novel Collection” many of the books should be stories that are considered classics or must reads.  The other cool thing is that when the collection is complete, you will end up with a nice spine image that spreads across the books.

Before I go any further I must warn you all that if you chose to join me in buying these books then your going to be spending a lot of cash, early guesses put the collection at somewhere between 50 and 60 books.  At £10 (£9.99) a book, as I said that’s a lot of cash.

The other minor complaint is that the books given are not in the order of the issues printed, by this I mean issue one of the collection comes with book 21, which continues in book 22.  This means that when you first start the spine image isn’t in any order at all.

The books are all hardbacks, and look beautiful, they are black with a central image of the story that you’re going to read.  The books start with a “previously in….” section that tells you what you really need to know prior to reading the tale.  In the back of the books there are character, writer and artist biographies.  The final page of each book gives suggested reading titles, either according to the artist/writer or the characters portrayed in the book.  In addition, little bit of a hint is given to upcoming books in this section, as titles appearing in the collection are highlighted yellow.  In addition to the reviews, I will be letting you know which books will be coming out according to this page, and from what I’ve seen so far, we are in for some treats.

Issue one came out two weeks ago, so you may still be able to get it in either, your local newsagent or local comic book store, Issue two came out today (11/1/12).
