This volume is a great issue and continues with the change of pace from volume nine. We get to meet up with a character from volume one again as well as see some of the backstory for Sargent Abraham Ford which is nice.
Truth is, if you have read the previous nine volumes you will go and probably buy this one anyways but it is worth the money exactly the same as the previous ones are. What The Walking Dead does brilliantly is grab not just the dark, depressing violent reality from the zombie apocalypse but also the real life living interactions between the humans. Granted a lot of the humans don’t trust each other but the interactions, relations and mini stories between each one is what makes the series for me.
We get to see how the group are affected mentally after the escape from the prison that obviously left Carl without a mum and sister not to mention Ricks rock is now gone in Lori.
Dale who has always been a big supporter of Rick is now turning against him and blaming him for his family of Andrea, the twins and himself not being able to settle down anywhere.
The tension from when the new group additions where added in volume nine of Sgt. Abe Ford, Rosita Espinoza and Eugene Porter are still there.
Abe and Rick start off really not liking each other but by the end of volume ten there is a new found friendship and respect, the bond over the traveling together they do in this volume.
During this traveling is where we see the mind set of Rick and how far he will go to protect Carl (his son). The group are ambushed after a stop and when some religious nut starts to go a bit preacher like crazy on Carl we don’t really see what Rick does to him but the Carls face and the sounds let you know it was pretty gruesome.
The issue was a lot more action packed than I expected after the last volume which was nice and Kirkman is still managing to keep me engrossed.
There is a touching moment in this volume where we see the guy from volume one (cannot remember his name) who you will remember had his son and helped rick to the police station where Rick gave him car, weapons and walkie talkie (not sure if this was just TV). You see what the space of only 10 – 12 months can do to a person.
Also the phone that is in the current TV show and was introduced in volume nine is still there.
All in all I am still loving it and plan to get the next few volumes for Christmas so will review them soon.
